Minjerribah Camping is pleased to announce the full re-opening of 322 campsites  across the island which had been significantly damaged by TC Alfred earlier in the year.

Minjerribah Camping Board member and QYAC Chair Cameron Costello, said the campsites at Main and Flinders Beaches would be open from Saturday, December 13 – after undergoing a comprehensive program of repairs and safety assessments.

“The wild cyclonic weather, which was then followed by heavy rain, caused a lot of damage on the island – causing dangerous erosion all along the sand dunes, nearby tracks and walkways,” Mr Costello explained.

“The whole area was deemed a safety risk which is why we temporarily closed the campsites sites and started a comprehensive restoration program to ensure they were safe and fully-operational.

“After a considerable amount of heavy machinery works involving Minjerribah Camping and QYAC crews and the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) we are pleased to report that all 322 campsites have been fully-assessed and deemed safe for the return of campers, just in time for the Christmas holiday break.

“We would like to thank QPWS and QYAC for their assistance and advice during this period and we look to welcoming back visitors to Minjerribah Camping.”
