GIANT quarry trucks, emergency vehicles, historic engines and hands-on family activities will take over Redlands Coast Museum this Ekka public holiday for Mighty Machines Day.

The family event will be held on Monday, August 10, bringing together modern working vehicles and the museum’s collection of historic transport, agricultural equipment and industrial machinery.

Visitors will be able to get up close to quarry trucks, fire engines, ambulances, tow trucks, recycling vehicles, buses and vintage cars, while meeting some of the people who operate and fix them.

Karreman Quarries, JJ’s Waste & Recycling, Queensland Ambulance Service, Cleveland Fire Station, Bayside Vehicle Restorers Club, Barnes Auto, Blue Bus and the No. 23 (City of Brisbane) Squadron RAAF Association are among the organisations contributing.

Inside the museum, visitors can explore tractors, windmills, pumps, agricultural machinery, a Ford Model T, Morris Mini and Motorail exhibits, as well as watch demonstrations in the working blacksmith shed, historic printing press and steam engine display.

Redlands Coast Museum Events Coordinator Tara Young said the day was designed to blend history, industry and family fun.

“Mighty Machines Day is all about inspiring curiosity,” Ms Young said.

“Children love big trucks and machines, but this event goes beyond that.

“It’s an opportunity to explore how technology has evolved, meet the people who operate these incredible vehicles and discover the stories behind the machines that help keep our communities running every day.”

The No. 23 Squadron RAAF Association will also offer a hands-on flight simulator, while the museum’s special-interest groups will present radio communications displays and a Thomas the Tank Engine display.

Children can take part in a Digger Door Scavenger Hunt through the museum galleries, create a Mighty Machines button badge and try giant wooden games, puzzles and other activities.

“We’re bringing together everything from steam-powered machinery and vintage transport through to modern quarry trucks, emergency vehicles and recycling equipment,” Ms Young said.

“There really is something for everyone.”

The Radio Room Café will be open for sausage sizzles, Devonshire teas and refreshments, with the museum shop also trading throughout the day.
