REDLANDS BMX Club has been left frustrated after its Capalaba track was vandalised for a second time, just days after volunteers spent two full days restoring the surface.
Division 9 Councillor Jason Colley said the damage was caused by riders using motorbikes, undoing hours of work by the club’s committee and members.
“It is disappointing to report that Redlands BMX Club track has again been vandalised by riders of illegal motorbikes,” Cr Colley said.
“Damage was sustained just days after the committee and club members spent two full days restoring and gluing the surface.”
Cr Colley warned that continued vandalism could force Council to take stronger action, including restricting access to public infrastructure.
“Unfortunately, Council may have no choice but to restrict access to some public infrastructure if vandalism continues to occur,” he said.
“When the track surface is damaged, it presents an unnecessary safety risk to riders.”
The Redlands BMX Club also expressed anger at the repeated damage, saying volunteers’ efforts were being undone in a matter of days.
“Disappointing to see our committee and club members put two full days in restoring and glueing the track surface only for it to be destroyed in a few days by e-bikes,” the club said in a social media post.
Cr Colley said he would continue working with the club to address the issue and protect the facility for legitimate riders.
“I will continue to work with the club to try and resolve these ongoing issues,” he said.
Redlands BMX Club is a popular community facility in Capalaba, hosting training and competitions for riders of all ages.
