QUEENSLAND’S oldest licensed pub, the Grand View Hotel in Cleveland, has reopened its doors after more than a year of extensive renovations – ushering in what owners are calling “a new era of hospitality” for locals and visitors alike.

Overlooking North Stradbroke Island, the historic bayside landmark – affectionately known as “the GV” – has been a favourite meeting place for generations.

The newly revitalised venue combines contemporary design and technology with the charm and character that have defined the pub since it first opened in 1851.

The multi-million-dollar transformation includes upgraded dining spaces, expanded capacity, and state-of-the-art kitchens and bars, while preserving the heritage-listed hallway and the Cleveland Room.

Key features of the redevelopment include a purpose-built marquee for functions and weddings, an upper dining terrace, and a pet-friendly lawn to cater for community gatherings and outdoor events.

The GV’s kitchen has been completely rebuilt, featuring Australia’s largest rotisserie oven, a Josper rotisserie grill, and an Italian Rotary Pizza Oven – all designed to deliver premium meals quickly and consistently.

A cutting-edge beer system with double the taps and a dedicated outdoor bar promise crisp, cold drinks with minimal wait times.

A historic cistern unearthed during construction – believed to date back to an 1855 advertisement for Cleveland House – has become a centrepiece of the renovation, offering guests a tangible connection to the site’s 19th-century roots.

Kickon Group CEO and Founder Craig Shearer said the redevelopment balanced the GV’s rich legacy with its modern future.

“The transformation is not just a facelift, it’s a safeguard for one of Queensland’s most historic venues, ensuring it remains a cornerstone of the community and a place where new memories continue to be made,” he said.

“We can’t wait to welcome locals and day trippers alike back to the Grand View for a cold beer, great food, and the kind of amazing hospitality that turns a visit into a lasting memory.

“The Grand View isn’t just a pub – it’s a part of Queensland’s story, and we’re proud to keep that story for generations to come.

“Discovering the 1855 well reminded us of the GV’s deep history, and now we’ve created a venue that honours that past while offering something truly exciting for the future.”

The Grand View’s new marquee can host up to 120 seated guests or 150 for cocktail-style events, while the upper terrace and lawn expand the venue’s capacity to more than 1000 people.

The reopening has already sparked excitement across the community – the official November launch party has sold out, and several former GV staff members are returning to the team.

The updated food offering is expected to be a major drawcard, with a menu featuring charcoal-grilled steaks, rotisserie meats, wood-fired pizzas, fresh seafood, and elevated pub classics.

With live music from Thursday to Sunday, large outdoor screens for sports, a kids’ play area, and a vibrant outdoor dining space overlooking the bay, the GV is set to reclaim its place as one of Queensland’s most beloved venues.
