THE Governor of Queensland has toured Redlands Coast’s IndigiScapes Centre as part of a visit focused on environmental education, conservation and the future development of the eco-tourism precinct.

Her Excellency Dr Jeannette Young AC PSM visited the IndigiScapes Centre, where she met with Redland City Mayor Jos Mitchell, council chief executive Louise Rusan and council officers before touring the site and sampling locally produced food.

Mayor Mitchell said the visit provided an opportunity to showcase the ongoing evolution of IndigiScapes as a hub for high-quality environmental education and nature-based tourism.

“The Governor was shown the location of the proposed RSPCA Wildlife Hospital and how it fits within the planned Redlands Coast Eco Precinct,” the mayor said.

“This visit also allowed council officers to explain their important work in koala protection and conservation.

“We thank the Governor for her genuine interest and generosity of time, and we were delighted to learn that the IndigiScapes Nursery has supplied native plants for the Government House gardens.”

Division 7 Councillor Rowanne McKenzie, who attended a lunch during the visit, said it was a pleasure to welcome the Governor back to the city.

“The Governor previously visited Redlands Coast in March last year to learn about council’s recovery efforts following ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred,” Cr McKenzie said.

“During that visit, she took time to meet with local residents, volunteers and staff at a Community Recovery Hub, showing genuine compassion and interest in the experiences of those affected.

“Her return demonstrates an ongoing commitment to understanding both the challenges and opportunities within our city.”
