REDLAND City councillors recorded more than $152,000 in expenses and facilities last financial year on top of almost $1.59 million in salaries and superannuation.

The figures, contained in Council’s 2025-26 Annual Report, show transport was by far the biggest expense category at $94,185.35, followed by conferences and training at $30,221.79.

The report is before councillors for adoption at Wednesday’s general meeting.

Cr Jason Colley recorded the largest individual expenses total, at $25,705.96, including $11,666.99 for conferences and training and $10,002.63 for transport.

Cr Shane Rendalls was next on $20,992.08, with $17,172.74 in transport expenses, while Cr Peter Mitchell recorded $20,706.14, including $14,017.02 for transport.

Deputy Mayor Julie Talty’s expenses totalled $19,074.81, while Mayor Jos Mitchell recorded $9102.23.

At the other end of the scale, Cr Paul Gollé recorded the lowest total at $1567.

Council says the expenses were incurred under its reimbursement and facilities policy, which is intended to cover legitimate and reasonable costs associated with councillors carrying out official duties.

The annual report lists totals by category, rather than a transaction-by-transaction breakdown.

The report also reveals the Mayor attended 10 of the year’s 14 general and special meetings, with four absences listed as approved leave.

Cr Gollé attended 13 meetings and had one leave absence. Every other councillor attended all 14 meetings.

The attendance figures cover the financial year to June 30 and do not include meetings held since then.

The Mayor received a gross salary of $202,358 plus $24,280 in Council superannuation contributions.

Deputy Mayor Cr Talty received $137,970 plus $16,555 in super, while each of the nine other divisional councillors received $119,577 plus $14,347 in super.

Combined, councillor salaries and superannuation totalled $1,586,479.

Add the $152,139.46 in reported expenses and facilities and the annual public cost recorded for the city’s elected representatives was about $1.74 million.

Separate governance disclosures in the report record 17 conduct notices given to the Office of the Independent Assessor during the year.

The report does not identify the councillors involved or the outcomes, and does not state the notices were proven breaches.

It records no complaints formally referred to the assessor by Council, a councillor or government entity, and no matters notified by Council to the Crime and Corruption Commission.

Beyond the councillor figures, the report says Council generated $507 million in overall revenue and spent $456 million during 2025-26, including a $97 million capital works program.

Council reported a $325 million cash balance, $3.6 billion in property, plant and equipment assets and $265 million in liabilities.

It also said 61 of 67 key projects and initiatives were completed during the year, with six still under way including work connected to the Birkdale Community Precinct, Cleveland town centre revitalisation and wastewater planning.

Council says it absorbed about $23 million in costs through efficiencies, procurement improvements and deferring lower-priority projects.
