A new community centre is giving Redland locals living with disability more choices by launching their latest 12-week program.

The Australian Foundation for Disability (Afford) recently opened its Redland Hub Community Centre in Capalaba and introduced a new 12-week participation program.

Afford is a disability organisation that provides support and services for people living with disability to feel connected in their communities.

The new hub features a modern and spacious layout for easy access, onsite parking and convenient access to public transport.

Redland Hub leader and service manager Natalie Kennedy said the new community centre had been a positive change for everybody.

“The clients have just adapted incredibly and are so excited that everything is close by,” she said.

Gino Finelli has been a client for 16 years and said he had made many friends from Afford and was glad the centre had moved to Capalaba.

Mr Finelli has been trialling Afford’s 12-week participation program, which is being led at the Redland Hub before being rolled out across the country.

“I like everything about the program, the staff are good, and I get to choose what I want to do,” he said.

Capalaba MP Don Brown attended the event and said he was excited to have Afford place its headquarters in Capalaba.

“As an NDIS family myself, it means a lot to me personally to have these types of services close to home and locally,” he said.

Councillor Tracey Hughes was unable to attend the event. However, Deputy Mayor Julie Talty attended representing council.

“There is a great need in the Redlands with more than 10,000 people across our city needing help in their day-to-day lives through ability challenges,” Cr Talty said.

“This is a modern place close to essential amenities where you can all meet, make friends and have family support.”
