PERCHED on the north-western foreshore of Macleay Island, Club Macleay is more than just a bowls club.

Today, Club Macleay boasts immaculate bowling greens, a popular sports bar, regular live entertainment and an onsite restaurant – the Club Macleay Bistro – that’s quickly building a reputation beyond the island.

“We do pizzas on a Monday and Tuesday, and then we have the bistro from Wednesday through to Sunday. We do lunch and dinner seven days a week,” Catering Manager Alec Smith said.

“We also do coffee and cake from 10am, with the Bistro opening from 11.30am for lunch and 5.30pm for dinner.”

The club’s menu features a variety of options – from burgers and steaks to fresh seafood – and the bistro regularly offers specials to keep things interesting.

“We’ve got a highly rotating specials board too, so each time you come into the club, you’re going to see something different,” Mr Smith said.

There’s also a dessert menu for those with a sweet tooth, and a wide selection of drinks and cocktails available at the bar, which is open seven days a week from 10am until late.

“And then we’ve also got a bar menu that runs in the afternoon,” Mr Smith added.

“With our menu, you can see we’ve tried to go for good, wholesome club food.”

Affordability is also front of mind when it comes to the food offering.

“That’s one of our mantras – good quality food at a good quality price,” Mr Smith said.

The club’s bistro has also had a physical refresh in recent times.

“Over here you can see all the new lights and the new bistro bar,” he said.

“We’ve tried to keep it quite casual.

“You walk into some clubs that have had a $10 million renovation and it’s quite sterile.

“We wanted to keep our character.”

Getting to Club Macleay is easy.

The island is just a short ferry ride from Redland Bay’s Weinam Creek Marina, with services running regularly throughout the day.
