A CAPALABA social enterprise gym that’s been open less than a year has taken out a prestigious state award for its work supporting carers, people with disability, and families.
Honoured Social Enterprise Gym, founded by Natalie Terry-Bedwell, also the founder of sister organisation Infinitely Valued, received the Carer Friendly Business Award (Great Business category) at the Carers Queensland Gala Lunch.
The award recognises businesses that go above and beyond to create inclusive, supportive spaces for carers and the people they care for.
Ms Terry-Bedwell, who is a Redlands mum to seven children, said she was deeply honoured to be recognised for work that has quickly grown into a community lifeline.
“We’ve worked hard to build a space where everyone – regardless of ability, background, or circumstance – feels seen, supported, and empowered to focus on their wellbeing,” she said.
“Our Carers Train Free initiative is one way we invest back into the health and wellbeing of our local community – including many young carers who often put others first. This award reminds us that what we’re doing truly matters.”
The business, located in Dan St, Capalaba, offers a gym for all with a focus on teen wellbeing, sports development, inclusive fitness programs, mental wellbeing initiatives, and collaborations with local organisations to promote health and connection.
Among its initiatives is the Nurture the Carer program, run in partnership with Navigating Disability, which helps carers look after their own wellbeing.
Ms Terry-Bedwell was nominated for the award by Redlands local Amelia Ramsay, who said the business had created “a truly inclusive and supportive space”.
Despite being less than 12 months old, Honoured Social Enterprise Gym has quickly become a hub for connection and support in the Redlands community.
“We want people to know that these spaces exist, that there are places designed to support them, to help them move, connect, and feel valued,” Ms Terry-Bedwell said.
