NAVIGATING the complexities of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) can be daunting, but the Brisbane Disability Expo is designed to ensure people with disability have all the connections and information they need to make choices that are right for them.

“The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), whilst game changing for many people, can be complex and challenging to navigate,” says ImpactInstitute’s Senior Advisor, Kathryn Carey.

“Added to that is the constant changes to the scheme and the fact that not everyone is eligible for the NDIS.

“The My Future, My Choice Disability Expo serves to inform choice and control and bringing the community together in a celebration of inclusion.

“We’ve noticed businesses increasingly offer innovative services in response to evolving needs. The Expo has become an informative destination that allows people with disabilities and their families to interact directly with providers one-on-one in a friendly easy to navigate environment.”

The Expo showcases a wide array of exhibitors offering services such as mobility aids, housing and home modifications, accessible travel options, financial advice, employment services and training options as well as social and support services.

It’s a one-stop shop for enhancing your quality of life. Enjoy the ease of having everything under one roof so you can spend your day gathering information and making connections all in a single, convenient venue.

The Expo is designed to be fully accessible, including a quiet hour on Saturday between 9am and 10am, ensuring that all attendees can comfortably participate and engage with exhibitors and activities.

This year’s ambassador is Kerry-Lee Gockel, affectionately known as the “Wingless Warrior”, who was born with congenital amelia – without arms – but has never let that define her limits.

A former solicitor turned Queensland Treasury professional, Kerry-Lee has carved out a career marked by adaptability, courage, and purpose. She lives life her own way, squeezing every drop out of it.

Beyond her professional achievements, Kerry-Lee is a passionate advocate for inclusion, resilience, and community.

Her lived experience fuels her powerful message: while not everything is possible, everyone has the power to explore and expand what is possible for them.

An accomplished open-water swimmer, Kerry-Lee swims freestyle using fins and sheer determination. Earlier this year she conquered a 20.4km tandem solo swim around Wop-pa (Great Keppel Island), finishing in just over six hours.

Kerry-Lee will take the stage for a live Q&A at 11am on Friday, November 1, sharing her journey and insights on navigating life with disability, the power of community, and the importance of knowing what support is available.

“There’s huge power in sharing stories,” she says. “I hope people walk away feeling empowered to ask for help and build their network around them.”

Whether you’re seeking inspiration, services, or connection, the Brisbane Disability Expo is a must-attend event – register at brisbane disabilityexpo.com.au.
