A REDLANDS-BASED tourism operator has been formally recognised by Redland City Council after taking out top honours on the national stage.
Bay Island Lifestyle, which operates from Raby Bay foreshore park, was acknowledged through a Recognition of Achievement at today’s council meeting following its gold medal win for Excellence in Accessible Tourism at the 2025 Qantas Australian Tourism Awards.
Councillor Peter Mitchell praised the team behind the business — Ashley, Karen and their staff — for their leadership in creating inclusive tourism experiences.
“We are incredibly proud of them,” Cr Mitchell said.
“This prestigious national recognition highlights their outstanding commitment to inclusivity, accessibility and innovative tourism experiences.”
Bay Island Lifestyle has built a reputation for ensuring people of all abilities can enjoy on-water activities, offering specialised equipment such as adaptive kayaks and water bikes, along with trained staff to support participants with diverse needs.
Cr Mitchell said the social impact of the business extended well beyond tourism.
“The social benefit of what the team provides to visitors and the community is invaluable,” he said.
“The economic spinoff is also significant for our area.”
The councillor noted the achievement was particularly noteworthy given the scale of the awards, with Bay Island Lifestyle among only a small number of Queensland winners recognised this year.
“This is something our whole community can be very proud of,” he said.
Cr Mitchell also told the chamber the team had asked for their thanks to be passed on to councillors who had supported their work, particularly those who had taken a close interest in the operation.
He encouraged fellow councillors and the broader community to visit the Raby Bay site and experience the service firsthand.
The Recognition of Achievement highlights the growing role of inclusive tourism in the Redlands and the region’s ability to deliver experiences that cater to all members of the community.
