SEQUINS, platform boots and timeless pop hits: Gold – The Ultimate ABBA Show is bringing all the magic of one of history’s most famous foursomes back to the stage.

When Kat Meakin first joined Gold – The Ultimate ABBA Show in 2014, she was stepping into the glittering shoes of Agnetha.

Her very first performance was on a cruise ship, a far cry from the packed theatres she plays today.

Now, more than a decade later, Meakin has made the transition to performing as Frida – giving her a unique perspective on both of ABBA’s legendary leading ladies.

“It’s amazing to know the show inside out and play both incredible vocalists,” she said.

“I still get nervous, but it’s always huge amounts of excitement and energy.

“The show is pure joy.”

Growing up in a musical family, her parents played plenty of ’70s records, with ABBA on high rotation, with that connection only growing over the years.

“ABBA’s music is timeless because the songs are so joyful and relatable,” she said.

“With the movies and stage shows like Mamma Mia!, it’s been introduced to every new generation – so the music just keeps living on.

“It’s honestly amazing and heartwarming.

“Watching people of all ages singing every word gives you goosebumps.

“It feels like one big joyful ABBA family out there.”

The costumes are another highlight – for both performer and crowd, Meakin admits she has a soft spot for the classics.

“I love the ’70s outfits – Agnetha in her cat suit with the big teal feathered cape, and Frida in her short, full sequin skirt with that huge cape,” she said.

“It’s so iconic, and the crowd loves it.”

This year’s tour is extra special, marking 50 years since the release of Mamma Mia! and ABBA’s self-titled album.

As for ABBA’s legacy, Meakin believes it’s already cemented in pop culture.

“Their music never goes out of style,” she said.

“ABBA are living legends and even after they’re gone, their songs will live forever.

“Their music will continue to bring joy to fans all around the world.”

And what can audiences expect when Gold – The Ultimate ABBA Show hits the stage?

“All the hits, the iconic costumes, the sparkle, the energy, and the fun,” Meakin said.

“It’s a celebration of ABBA’s music with all the moves, the sequins, and plenty of moments to sing and dance along.”

Gold – The Ultimate ABBA Show plays the Koala Tavern at Capalaba on Saturday night at 8pm with tickets available via Oztix.
