AARON Weir has stepped into the presidency of the Redlands Coast Chamber of Commerce, pledging to put connection, participation and practical support for local businesses at the heart of the year ahead.
The Azz Industries representative will lead the Chamber through 2026/27 at a time when business owners are facing continued pressure from rising rents, wages, fuel costs, taxes, fees and interest rates – but also fresh opportunities tied to major development across Redlands Coast and the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Mr Weir said taking on the role was about far more than a title.
“It means we’ve all either gone a little bonkers, or I genuinely enjoy being part of a proactive group that helps local businesses, including my own, succeed,” he said.
A father of two teenagers, Mr Weir has spent about a decade involved in school P&Cs, an experience he said deepened his ties to the community and reinforced the value of bringing people together.
That people-first approach will underpin his Chamber leadership.
“I’ve always enjoyed connecting people with the right professionals, because at some point we all need a bit of help,” he said.
“If I can inspire others to get involved, take on leadership roles, or simply make the most of opportunities for themselves and others, then that’s a win.”
Mr Weir said a key priority would be lifting awareness of the Chamber and making sure more local businesses understood the value of membership.
“My priority is to increase awareness, build trust and ensure more businesses benefit from what the Chamber offers,” he said.
Away from business, Mr Weir shares a busy family life with partner Laurissa, with old cars, big V8s, technology and the family pets among his interests.
He is supported by vice-presidents Ross Snell, Suzie Tafolo and Tina Nash; secretary Tracey Stirling; treasurer Helen Hall; and committee members Adrian Reavley, Grace Tobin, Kannan Paulvannan, Michelle Meurs, Nicci Playouw and Steve McDonald.
The committee will continue to advocate to all levels of government while creating more opportunities for Redlands Coast businesses to connect, collaborate and be heard.
As he begins his term, Mr Weir’s message is straightforward.
“I can promise that I will always do my best,” he said.
