THE Capelbourne Cup — a prized tradition in Queensland’s greyhound racing calendar — once again delivered a thrilling finish down the famous 366-metre Capalaba straight on the first Tuesday of November.

Eight of the fastest chasers at the bayside track from the past year lined up for bragging rights, but it was Blue Art who stole the show.

Jumping cleanly from box four, the Tommy Shelby x Boscono flyer, trained by Robert Ayres, surged through the centre of the track to reel in early leader Mr O’Malley (8) and claim victory by two lengths in 19.59 seconds. Idea’s Girl finished strongly to round out the placings.

Blue Art’s performance capped off a consistent season. Earlier in February, he clocked a blistering 19.39 in a dominant five-length win to qualify for the Cup.

With nine wins and 22 placings from 58 career starts, Blue Art’s triumph pushed his prize money tally beyond $94,700 — and cemented his name among Capalaba’s quickest.
