Redland City Council recorded 57 notices about councillor conduct given to the assessor during the 2024–25 financial year, according to its annual report.

The report, published in line with the Local Government Regulation 2012, outlines complaints, referrals, decisions, and orders concerning councillor behaviour.

Councillor conduct complaints are typically investigated by the Office of the Independent Assessor (OIA), which may refer matters to council for resolution or to the Councillor Conduct Tribunal if misconduct is suspected.

Of these, one notice was issued directly by the CEO or a councillor, highlighting the role of council officials in flagging potential issues.

The report shows that while suspected conduct breaches totalled seven, only one proceeded to investigation, and no matters were referred to the Crime and Corruption Commission.

For the 12-month period ending 30 June 2025, the report shows that one order was issued against Mayor Jos Mitchell for a suspected conduct breach, resulting in a formal reprimand.

No other orders or disciplinary actions were recorded against councillors during the year.

Council took an average of 21 days to make decisions under the Local Government Act, with two matters still pending at the end of the year.

The data underscores the formal processes in place to monitor councillor behaviour, with the full Councillor Conduct Register available on the council’s website.
