Redland City Council unveils a purpose-built boat to target mosquito breeding hotspots, protecting health across the Redlands Coast.

Forget fishing trips or lazy cruises — Redland City’s latest boat comes with a mission far less glamorous but far itchier: fighting mozzies.

The Council has just unveiled a purpose-built vessel designed not for chasing barra, but for chasing down mosquito breeding hotspots lurking around the Redlands Coast.

Looking more like a cross between a barge and a Transformer, the boat comes with its own ramp that drops down so quad bikes and heavy equipment can roll straight into wetlands and tidal flats.

Translation: mozzies won’t know what’s hit them.

“Mosquito-borne illnesses like Ross River virus pose real health risks, and this vessel ensures we can deliver timely and targeted treatments across our islands,” said Councillor Paul Golle, Chair of the Biosecurity Working Group.

“It’s about protecting public health while supporting our unique island communities.”

Locals can take comfort that while mozzies are sharpening their proboscises after wet weather, the Council’s biosecurity squad is now armed with its own amphibious mothership.

Faster responses, fewer bites, and hopefully less whinging at backyard barbecues.

Because in the Redlands, the war on mozzies just went nautical.
