From tech tango lessons to coffee with kindred spirits, here’s your cheeky guide to embracing senior life with confidence, curiosity, and a little bit of sparkle.

They say age brings wisdom and grace … and perhaps the odd mystery creak in the knees. But let’s be real – confidence doesn’t always automatically arrive with the candles on your birthday cake. In fact, for some, those post-60 years can bring a few insecurities.

Why? Well, life changes shape. Retirement can leave you wondering who you are without your “job hat”. Physical changes might sneak in and leave you comparing yourself to your younger self (or worse, to those sprightly 20-somethings on Instagram).

Add to that the loss of loved ones or the occasional “what on earth is TikTok?” moment, and it’s no surprise a bit of self-doubt can creep in.

But here’s the good news: confidence isn’t a one-time achievement – it’s a skill you can keep building, polishing, and occasionally bedazzling with glitter.

Try these tips for staying bold, bright and brilliant:

  1. Own the feelings – It’s okay to feel wobbly. Acknowledge it, then remind yourself you’ve already navigated decades of life’s curveballs. You’re tougher than you think.
  2. Join the fun: Whether it’s a walking group, choir, ukulele class, or local trivia night, connection is confidence’s best friend.
  3. Try the “new thing” rule: Pick one new skill to explore each season. It could be pottery, learning to Zoom, or even salsa dancing (bonus points if you rope in a friend).
  4. Laugh – often: Watch comedy shows, swap silly memes, or catch up with that one friend who always makes you snort tea through your nose.
  5. Create little joys: Fresh flowers in the kitchen, a fancy coffee cup, music in the morning. Tiny rituals keep the spirit buoyant.
