IN a light-filled studio in Birkdale, Danielle Chapman is helping people unlock their emotions, ease stress, and rediscover joy, one brushstroke at a time.

As both a qualified counsellor and art therapist, she offers a unique blend of creative expression and emotional support that has been life-changing for many of her clients.

Her journey to this career wasn’t straightforward.

“I was expected to be the doctor or scientist in my family,” she explains.

“I ignored my creative side for years and felt something was missing.”

In her mid-30s, she began counselling studies, driven by a desire to help others. Alongside this, she discovered the soothing release of 3D sculpt painting.

“I thought, if art could help me, maybe it could help others too.”

Art therapy is a gentle, non-invasive way to explore inner thoughts and emotions through painting, drawing, clay work, mosaics and more. It’s not about being “good” at art, there’s no pressure, only exploration.

“We experiment with different mediums until something sparks a connection,” Danielle says. “Even discarding a piece can be therapeutic.”

Clients range from children to seniors, including NDIS participants, aged care residents, and corporate teams seeking stress relief. Sessions are tailored, sometimes purely creative, sometimes more counselling-focused, and often a blend of both.

The results speak for themselves: clients becoming more open, discovering new self-care habits, and even finding breakthroughs in healing past trauma.

For those curious but cautious, Danielle offers “Discover Art” workshops on Wednesday mornings. These small, friendly groups are perfect for trying out different creative activities without commitment.

Whether it’s to cope with stress, work through life’s challenges, or simply carve out space for self-care, art therapy offers a safe, uplifting path forward.

As Danielle puts it, “Self-care fills your cup so you can be more present in your life. Sometimes, healing begins with just picking up a paintbrush.”
