The Redland Bayside News has officially welcomed a new owner, with long-time local businessman Warren Pryde taking the reins from outgoing publisher David Johnston.

Mr Pryde, a Redland City local of more than 35 years and the owner of several successful small businesses in the region, said he was excited to take on the paper and was committed to maintaining its reputation for trusted, independent local news and delivering strong results for advertisers.

“Local news, events and sport matter to our community – and we’re going to keep delivering that with passion and purpose,” Mr Pryde said.

“I’m proud to be stepping into this role and carrying on that legacy.”

He said the media landscape was rapidly shifting, but there was still a critical place for regional printed newspapers.

“In a digital world, people still crave stories that connect them to their neighbourhoods,” he said.

“A printed paper in your hand is still powerful – it’s personal, it’s local, and it builds community.”

Mr Pryde paid tribute to former owner David Johnston, who launched the paper in May 2023.

“David has done an exceptional job keeping local journalism alive and thriving in Redland City,” he said.

“I thank him for his dedication and am honoured to continue his work.”

Mr Johnston said he was pleased to pass the baton to someone who shared his passion for the region and for community reporting.

“I’m happy to hand over to Warren, who I know is as committed to local news as I have been,” Mr Johnston said.

“The paper is in great hands.”
