QUEENSLAND’S small business community has received a welcome boost with the State Government extending the Small Business Support Network through to June 2028.

The initiative provides free, confidential access to financial counsellors and wellness coaches, helping business owners manage the pressures of running a small enterprise whether that means navigating financial strain, burnout, or balancing work and life commitments.

“Small business owners are used to doing it all –staffing, accounts, marketing, even fixing the coffee machine,” a local hospitality operator said.

“We’re expected to just keep going, no matter how tough it gets.

“It’s good to see some support in this space for the employers too, not just employees.”

The Small Business Support Network is open to Queensland-based businesses with fewer than 20 employees and an active ABN.

Sole traders and microbusinesses are also eligible – a critical inclusion, especially in regional and suburban communities where small, family-run operations are the lifeblood of the local economy.

The wellness coaches offer practical, empathetic support for personal and professional challenges, while small business financial counsellors can help tackle debt, cash flow concerns, or future planning.

The service complements the NewAccess for Small Business Owners program, a free mental health coaching program offering up to eight confidential sessions, no GP referral required, with coaching delivered via phone or video.

Coaches are available across Queensland, including in South Brisbane, Logan, Gold Coast and Toowoomba, with remote services available statewide.

This extension offers more than just practical help – it signals to small business owners that their wellbeing matters too.

Because behind every small business is a person, and they deserve support too.
