WYNNUM Wolves claimed their first win of the 2025 NPL Men’s season in dramatic fashion, coming from behind to defeat Olympic FC 2-1 in a rescheduled Round 6 clash at Goodwin Park.

After a first half dominated by the hosts, Olympic took a deserved lead in the 20th minute through Lachlan Farr, who finished off a swift attacking move to put his side ahead at the break.

But the Wolves came out with renewed purpose in the second half and slowly turned the tide.

Striker Luke Francis continued his scoring streak, levelling the scores in the 72nd minute with a composed finish as he rounded the keeper to bring the visitors back into the contest.

With the match seemingly destined for a draw, it was Zac Maltby who played the hero late on.

In the 89th minute, Maltby showed neat control before curling in the winner to send the travelling fans into raptures.

Former Olympic favourite Jez Lofthouse made a notable return to Goodwin Park in Wolves colours, playing a key role in the team’s second-half resurgence and showing glimpses of the form that made him a fan favourite.

The win not only lifted morale for the Wolves but set them up for a tough run of fixtures.

However, Sunday saw a shock 1-2 loss to Brisbane Roar Youth in a game switched to Carmichael Park.

Yesterday, the Wolves travelled to Broadbeach United for an Australia Day Cup clash, before returning to Carmichael Park this Saturday to take on Sunshine Coast Wanderers.
