WYNNUM is gearing up for a major facelift.
The Wynnum Centre Suburban Renewal Precinct Plan has officially kicked off, and it’s set to transform the heart of the area.
This ambitious project aims to supercharge transport connections, give local businesses a much-needed boost, and offer opportunities for new housing in the heart of the Wynnum CBD.
The plan will cover key areas including Berrima St to Clara St, along Tingal Rd and Bay Tce, and will also encompass Wynnum Central Station and surrounding streets such as Bride St, Charlotte St, Florence St and Edith St.
The initiative is part of a broader suburban renewal precinct program, designed to unlock potential for new homes and jobs in well-located, smaller suburban areas.
The aim is to ensure that Wynnum’s central business district evolves to meet the needs of a growing population while preserving the qualities that make it one of Brisbane’s most desirable areas to live, work, and relax.
In announcing the consultation, Councillor Alex Givney highlighted the importance of community input in shaping the future of Wynnum.
“Wynnum is growing, and we want to make sure residents can continue to enjoy our fantastic lifestyle, while also maintaining our area’s reputation as one of the best places to live, work and relax,” Cr Givney said.
The consultation, which will run until Sunday, May 18, invites residents and businesses to share their thoughts on potential changes to public spaces, parking, footpaths, and other aspects of the Wynnum CBD.
Cr Givney emphasised that the feedback will be critical in developing the planning tools needed for the area’s future success.
“This consultation invites residents to share their thoughts on how we can evolve with our growing suburb and make sure we have the planning tools in place for us to thrive,” she said.
Cr Givney also expressed excitement about working closely with Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner and the local community to ensure that Wynnum remains a vibrant and attractive place to live and do business.
“I am excited to work with Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner as we listen to the community’s ideas on how we make living and doing business in the Bayside even better,” she said.
Residents are encouraged to participate in the consultation to ensure their voices are heard in the planning process for this important urban renewal project.
