REDLANDS United made the short trip to Tingalpa last week for the Round 4 Kappa Pro Series game against Wynnum Wolves in their last hit-out before the start of the FQPL 1 competition on Friday night.
Wynnum was straight on the attack from the kick-off and the home side took the lead after only two minutes when former Red Devil, Ryo Emoto, latched on to a through ball and finished clinically to give Wolves a 1-0 lead.
Redlands regrouped and worked their way back into the game and had the better of the first half chances.
However, the Red Devils were continually thwarted by some great saves from Wolves goalkeeper Zac Galea and some scrambling goal-line defending by Wolves.
Despite leading the shots-on-goal tally, Redlands trailed 1-0 at the break.
As the second half started, Redlands continued to push forward, however after 55 minutes a goalmouth scramble saw Wolves extend their lead.
Following a free-kick, United failed to clear before Zach Maltby drove the ball into the net to double Wolves’ advantage.
A few moments later Redlands’ Josh Masters rose above everyone else in the Wolves box and headed towards goal with Galea beaten, only to see the ball drift the wrong side of the post.
After the game, Redlands head coach Garrett McDuling was delighted with the performance.
“Wolves away will be a tough fixture for any NPL club this season,” he said.
The Red Devils start the 2025 FQPL1 competition on the road when they take on the newly promoted Holland Park Hawks in round one.
