Look carefully at the options for you in retirement villages

Are you thinking of entering a village situation on your retirement?

There are pluses and minuses to the thought of moving into a smaller home in a more closer situation.

There are seniors from all walks of life, some you may not get along with. There are numerous benefits for those who make the choice to move. However there are a number of things that have to be thought through, and for you to be comfortable with, before one even decides to make that change.

You may have lived in your current home for a number of years, a lot in fact, and the mere thought of moving house seems rather difficult and it might take some time to allow yourself to even decide to go.

That’s OK! Take your time to deciDe. It could be quite difficult for you to re enter Suburbia if you buy into a village, and find it ‘not your thing’. House prices may have gone up since you sold and it might just be impossible to buy back in.

Being retired and obtaining a loan now would be impossible, so you end up being stuck in a place that you maybe, don’t particularly like. Thinking ahead is vitally important to the decision making process.

Questions you may ask yourself are very important, like how old are you, are you in good health, do you have, or will you have enough money to pay for the on-going costs associated with the type of village situation you want to go in to. Remember costs will go up! Some can be quite expensive if wanting to move on earlier than planned.

Knowing someone in the village can be so important to your decision.

Do they like it there? They could give you vital information on the village.

Would you be moving away from current friends and family or stay in the locality you live now. Maybe this is the opportunity to get away from it all and go to a village in a beach style suburb. But keep in mind that these places could be more expensive due to their popularity.

Many of these really nice new places have all the amenities, including shops, hairdressing salon, theatre, as well as the usual sporting activities that a social club enjoys. Now you might think this is a great place, but often these come with a huge cost somewhere down the line.

You may choose a complex that has a facility attached that can cater for you should you get sick, but think carefully and obtain as much information as you can and when you have everything you need, go to a solicitor who deals with these issues and seek their expertise.

Now there are different types of villages and these go under different names, a few are owned by private individuals but most are owned by large corporations and companies.

Maybe that middle of the road village may be the one, Some are called resort villages and although not quite in the same class as these newer villages, they are the simpler way of getting into a village.
