REDLAND City Council CEO Andrew Chesterman has resigned after a “Special meeting to discuss a confidential contract matter” was held at the Council Chambers late last Friday.

Mr Chesterman resigned as CEO after seven and a half years of public service, and the circumstances around the shock resignation remain unclear.

During his time with the council, Mr Chesterman navigated it through the Covid-19 pandemic and advocated for programs that improved the council’s approach to safety, people management, organisational culture and leadership.

A press release confirmed the CEO had left the Redland City Council in a strong financial position, with a new digital transformation program underway and a modern approach to advocacy, major projects management, strategic planning, procurement, and capital works programming.

Mr Chesterman also led the introduction of a new Employee Value Proposition, development of the council’s first Reconciliation Action Plan, the adoption of the Hidden Disability Sunflower Initiative, and sponsored many leadership development programs with the organisation, being recognised nationally for many of these commitments.

Mr Chesterman said he was most proud of his connection with the council’s many employees.

“I wish the Mayor, councillors, our employees and business partners all the very best, and will watch with great affection as Redland City Council continues to make our location one of the very best places on Earth to live, work and play,” he said.

The council accepted Mr Chesterman’s resignation in the special meeting and appointed Louise Rusan to act as CEO from September 13 while a new recruit is sought.

On behalf of all councillors, Mayor Jos Mitchell thanked Mr Chesterman for his service to the Redlands Coast community and wished him all the very best for his future.
