The athletic look is all the rage

The athletic look is all the rage

I think I am doing the world a favour not wearing athletic gear.

There they are – VW bonnet at the front and two jelly fish wrestling at the back – doing their shopping, dropping off the kids to school, drinking coffee.

The athletic wear is the current casual look for trendy Mums.

Now my bet is that for the most part, very few of the many sporting this look have come directly from the gym.

The white joggers, the tight pants that reveal more than my eye needs to see and the little crop tops are not about an early morning fitness regime. In fact, rarely have I seen any of these trendies look like they have broken a sweat in the previous few hours.

Surely if they had, their makeup would be less impeccable and their hair may not be so rigid, stoically staying in place even with a cyclonic event.

Perhaps it is jealousy talking. Because trust me, if I had their bods, I might want to spray on a quick tan and coat mine in lycra too.

I may also be completely wrong and local gyms are doing a roaring trade with a flurry of gorgeous looking, well-toned women pounding their way through the equipment. I would feel fully exercised just as a spectator. Actually, just thinking about it is about the closest I may get to a workout these days (my friend and I once started our walking regime by driving the route).

But it’s winter now. The bodies are getting covered over. The leggings are being replaced by jeggings (that curious combination of jeans and leggings is probably several years out of date, so it really just shows how much I don’t actually know what I’m talking about).

On top there are the off-the-shoulder, slightly too large sweats and of course, the blindingly white shoes. I am at a loss as to how they maintain their sparkling white-ness, but then again, I suppose there isn’t a lot of mud involved. Perhaps the shoes are regularly updated at the same pace as the athletic gear goes down a size.

Yes, it is most definitely jealousy.
