Student Brianna Loom wanted more out of high school, and after enrolling in Senior College at TAFE Queensland, she found her community and path to success.

“Attending Senior College has transformed my life,” said Brianna, who is completing her Queensland Certificate of Education.

“Since enrolling, I have discovered a newfound excitement for learning,” Brianna said.

“One of the most significant changes has been the management of my mental health challenges.”

TAFE Queensland Alexandra Hills campus exclusively hosts the Senior College program, with senior studies students provided with mentoring, flexibility, career guidance officers, and AccessAbility support services.

“The supportive environment at Senior College has allowed me to focus on my studies and dedicate time to personal growth and self-care,” Brianna said.

Brianna is also studying a Certificate II in Tourism (SIT20122) through the TAFE at School program, which will allow her to graduate with a vocational qualification and kick-start her career.

“In addition to the academic and mental health support, Senior College has provided a wonderful community, becoming a vital part of my journey. It has exposed me to new cultures and people, enriching my perspective on the world,” said Brianna.

“The acceptance and camaraderie I have found at TAFE Queensland have empowered me to be myself fully, celebrating our differences and commonalities. This diverse environment has been a cornerstone of my improved mental health and overall well-being, allowing me to thrive academically and personally.”

Senior College is designed for 15 to 17-year-olds who are seeking an alternative to the traditional high school system. Students study QCAA-approved subjects like English, math, arts, and drama in a flexible and practical learning environment, with the opportunity to go on to further study with TAFE Queensland, university, or graduate with the confidence to enter straight into the workforce.
