There was some great news! Last week we had a bit of nice weather coming our way just in time for a Sunday fish.
Fishing in Moreton Bay will be superb over the next couple of months for spotty mackerel, snapper and diver whiting.
Spotty mackerel are best caught by casting metal lures at surface schools and jigging the beacons. The best lures Laser Metal lures 25-45 gram.
The best bait for snapper is whiting, cuttlefish whole and fish heads. Best spots include Harry Atkinson Artificial Reef, Mud Island, and the western side of Green Island.
Try to fish as light as possible as snapper will rise through the water column to feed. Diver Whiting best spots: fisherman’s gutter, the Rous Channel, the Chain Banks and the Sand Hills. I find that the best bait for snapper is live blood worms.
Our local creeks and dams are inhabited by a noxious pest fish called a Tilapia. You can take the kids fishing for this species which is an easy and cheap target fish. And they are OK table fish. The best bait for them is garden worms suspended under a float.
Best of all there are no possession limits or size limits, but you must dispose of the fish on the bank as in bury them or dispose of them in a bin.
Happy Fishing till next week.
