Redlands United were on the road again last Saturday for their round 10 NPL men’s fixture against Brisbane Roar.

A seventh minute goal was all that separated the two teams in a game that Redlands United should have won, but it was just not to be.

The first half was a tight encounter, with the game going from end-to-end. After only seven minutes a rare moment of miscommunication and hesitation by the Redlands defence saw a Roar player steal the ball on the halfway line and set up a one-on-one with Redlands goalkeeper Ryan Govan, which gave the custodian no chance.

For the remainder of the half, Redlands had the majority of the play but not the bounce of the ball.

Jack Skinner’s shot rebounded from the Roar keeper only to fall just out of reach of striker Peter Klaassen. A few minutes later the Roar were scrambling and repelled three shots in a row from their goal mouth.

For the remainder of the game Redlands dominated the play but could not find the net. They had three penalty shouts turned down, multiple balls cleared off their goal line and a close tap in chance.

To Brisbane Roar’s credit, they scrambled well and did what they needed to get the win. For Redlands it was just one of those nights where the bounce of the ball was against them.

Redlands Fiction Bar and Restaurant man of the match was awarded to ever-reliable defender Noah Hitchcock.

Next weekend Redlands are back at home after a few games on the road, taking on one of the competition’s long-standing powerhouses, Peninsula Power, on Saturday evening.

Kick-off is at 6pm with the under 23s at 3.30pm.
