CAPALABA police have charged three alleged party hosts following a large disturbance on Wildflower St last month where officers were allegedly met with glass bottles being thrown in their direction.

Police were called to the address about 10.15pm on September 19 following reports of a large disturbance.

They say officers arrived to find a significant number of people in the area before additional resources were deployed and police gained entry to the residence.

As people fled the scene, police were alerted to a 16-year-old girl who had collapsed.

She was taken to Redland Hospital for treatment and discharged the following morning.

A 43-year-old Birkdale man, who had arrived to collect one of the attendees, suffered a suspected medical episode and was taken to Princess Alexandra Hospital in a critical condition, where he remains.

A 17-year-old Thornlands boy was arrested at the scene and charged with serious assault of a police officer by spitting, public nuisance and obstructing police.

He is due to appear in Cleveland Children’s Court on October 16.

Following ongoing investigations, police have now charged a 45-year-old Capalaba man and a 41-year-old Capalaba woman with one count each of organising an out-of-control event.

The pair are expected to appear in Cleveland Magistrates Court on October 27.

A 16-year-old Capalaba boy, also alleged to have hosted the gathering, was charged with contravening a police direction in relation to the event and was dealt with under the Youth Justice Act.

Police will allege the hosts did not take appropriate steps to ensure the gathering was safe and orderly for attendees and neighbours.

It will also be alleged the teenage host failed to comply with reasonable police directions when officers arrived.

South Brisbane District Acting Superintendent Jon Kent said party hosts had a responsibility to plan ahead and act before a gathering became unsafe.

“We expect hosts to plan ahead, know your guests, manage numbers, supervise the party, know the warning signs and take action early as a gathering becomes unsafe or gets out of control,” Acting Superintendent Kent said.

“Police are also reminding parents that if the party is for their child, this does not wipe the parent’s hands of responsibility.

“As the guardian, your responsibility is to ensure a safe and controlled environment for all attendees, especially as other children may be in attendance.”

Acting Superintendent Kent said hosts should carefully control invitations, avoid advertising parties openly on social media, arrange adequate adult supervision and have a plan for medical emergencies or gatecrashers.

“The responsibility for establishing a safe and controlled environment starts with hosts,” he said.

“If you aren’t confident you can manage it, then reconsider if the scale of event is one you should be organising.”

Police investigations are continuing – anyone with information or relevant vision is urged to contact Policelink or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, quoting reference numbers QP2601841583 and QP2601841536.
