Redland Hospital has opened its expanded Transit Lounge to care for more than 100 extra patients each week.

The $750,000 upgrade provides faster transfers for patients, expanded services closer to home and more comfortable care.

The upgraded lounge, which is more than double the space of the old lounge, is also expected to help alleviate pressure on the hospital emergency department.

By expanding the physical space and capacity with four extra beds, patients now have access to improved services during their stay.

Health Minister Shannon Fentiman said the expanded lounge was another exciting step forward for the expansion of Redland Hospital.

“The Palaszczuk government is committed to investing in modern and comfortable facilities and this expansion will make a huge difference to patients receiving care, or awaiting admission, transfer or discharge from hospital,” she said.

Redlands MP Kim Richards said new services at the hospital would help meet the increasing demand for health services across the bayside.

“I am thrilled that patients are already using the expanded Transit Lounge which has been designed to improve their comfort and experience,” she said.

“We are looking forward to many more expanded and new services coming online at Redland Hospital soon, including the new 28-bed modular ward.”
