A REDLAND City councillor will push for a detailed investigation into persistent flooding and drainage problems affecting Beveridge Road at Thornlands.
Cr Paul Golle has lodged a notice of motion for next Wednesday’s Council meeting, seeking a report into flooding that has affected residential properties, public roads and surrounding land during heavy rain.
The proposed motion calls for Council officers to assess whether existing and approved development across the Beveridge Road catchment is increasing stormwater flows, placing extra pressure on drainage infrastructure and worsening flood behaviour.
It also seeks an audit of deficiencies in the area’s stormwater network, including constraints associated with environmental areas, floodplains and historic overland flow paths.
Residents have raised ongoing concerns about homes being inundated, unsafe road conditions and the capacity of drainage infrastructure in what Cr Gollè describes as a known environmental and flood-affected area.
Under the motion, Council officers would be required to provide options, estimated costs and potential timeframes for drainage upgrades, flood-mitigation works and other infrastructure improvements.
Cr Gollè is also seeking direct consultation with affected Beveridge Road residents and property owners to document their experiences and concerns.
The motion further asks Council to review how future development applications within the catchment are assessed, with particular attention to stormwater management, downstream flooding, environmental constraints and available infrastructure capacity.
“Given the ongoing nature of these issues, it is appropriate that Council undertake a detailed assessment of the flooding impacts affecting Beveridge Road and identify potential mitigation measures and infrastructure solutions to address current and future risks,” the notice of motion states.
If supported, the CEO would prepare a report for Council consideration.
