MORE than 5200 children across the Redlands and Oodgeroo electorates have received help to participate in sport and active recreation through the State Government’s Play On! Sports Vouchers program.
Figures released by local MPs show 5256 vouchers have been redeemed across the two electorates through 48 participating activity providers.
In Oodgeroo, 3348 vouchers have been redeemed through 26 providers, while 1908 vouchers have been used through 22 providers in the Redlands electorate.
Applications for the next round opened on July 27, with vouchers worth up to $200 available to reduce membership fees and participation costs for children aged between five and 17.
State Member for Oodgeroo Amanda Stoker said the strong uptake demonstrated the program’s importance to families and community clubs.
“For many families, the cost of registration can be the difference between a child joining a team or missing out,” Mrs Stoker said.
“These vouchers are providing practical cost-of-living relief while helping more children get active, build confidence, make friends and become part of a local club.
“I thank the 26 activity providers taking part across Oodgeroo and helping local families access this support.
“With 3348 vouchers already redeemed in Oodgeroo, this program is making a real difference in our community.”
Member for Redlands Rebecca Young said the program was helping families struggling with cost-of-living pressures.
“That’s 1908 local kids who have been able to get onto the field, court, track or gym because their family had one less cost to worry about,” Mrs Young said.
“This isn’t just a number; it’s real relief for Redlands families.”
