THE Redlands is set to benefit from a suite of infrastructure projects, cost-of-living measures, health investments and community initiatives under the Queensland Budget 2026-27, with the State Government promising a stronger economy, better services and safer communities.
The Crisafulli Government has highlighted several key commitments for the region, including the delivery of the Weinam Creek Car Park, the Redlands Whitewater Centre, a new Marine Centre of Excellence on Russell Island and a new MRI machine for Redland Hospital.
The Budget also includes measures aimed at easing household pressures, including a two-year freeze on bulk water prices expected to save South East Queensland families about $130, the continuation of $150 Back to School Boost payments and $200 Play On! sports vouchers.
Health and community investments feature strongly in the package, with funding allocated for a new MRI machine at Redland Hospital, a new RSPCA Wildlife Hospital at Capalaba, additional homelessness and crisis accommodation services, and environmental initiatives aimed at achieving Zero Litter to the Bay by 2030 through the installation of stormwater drain filters.
Major infrastructure projects earmarked for the Redlands include the long-awaited Weinam Creek Car Park for Southern Moreton Bay Islands commuters and the Redlands Whitewater Centre, which is expected to play a key role in the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games legacy.
Transport upgrades have also been funded, including improvements to the Birkdale Road and Capalaba Central Shopping Centre intersection, the Mount Cotton Road and Valley Way intersection, and pedestrian safety enhancements at the East Coast Road and Cunningham Street intersection on North Stradbroke Island.
The Budget also supports local sporting infrastructure, with upgrades planned for Wellington Point Bowls Club, including new shade structures and synthetic playing surfaces, and improvements to Redlands Cricket Club facilities at EGW Wood Sportsground, including a new women’s changeroom and amenities block through the Games On! program.
Community safety measures include additional police resources, expanded support services for victims of crime through the Victim Advocate Service, anti-hooning camera networks in Mount Cotton, Sheldon and Priestdale, and new youth intervention and rehabilitation programs.
Premier David Crisafulli said the Budget delivered on the Government’s commitment to the Redlands.
“We are continuing to deliver a fresh start for the Redlands, addressing the crises we inherited in youth crime, health, housing and cost of living as well as delivering the local community initiatives we promised,” Mr Crisafulli said.
“We are delivering better services through a stronger economy with relief Redlands Queenslanders can rely on, including the $150 Back to School Boost, Play On! Sports Vouchers, and a two-year freeze on bulk water prices.
“After years of underinvestment, we’re getting on with building Queensland’s future with the generational infrastructure to get you home sooner and safer, with a place to call home for more Queenslanders, and more schools for our growing population.
“We remain laser focused on making Queensland safer with more police, stronger laws, early intervention and rehabilitation, and with victim numbers down we know we’re heading in the right direction but there’s still much more work to do.
“This budget is delivering on our promises, with no new or increased taxes and relief you can rely on, making the responsible decisions for now and the future.”
The State Government said the Budget delivers record investment in health, education, roads and housing while maintaining its commitment to no new or increased taxes.
