THE Redlands cycling and multisport scene produced a massive weekend of results, with podium finishes, personal bests, breakaway wins and standout performances across Queensland and interstate competition.
Leading the charge was rising talent Siena Goulding, who powered to victory in the Under 17 Prologue at the Goulburn Junior Tour while racing for RCMC.
Goulding then launched a fierce attack in the main race before crashing out after driving the pace at the front of the field.
Back home, the RCMC multisport crew combined a brick session with Cleveland Parkrun before finishing with the all-important recovery coffee at Roof Cafe as members farewelled Linda Meredith ahead of her move to the Gold Coast.
Franco also turned heads after producing a blistering sub 19-minute personal best during Cleveland Parkrun in the middle of an 18km training run.
At Saturday’s Muzz Crits, Simon Phuah again proved unstoppable in Masters B, sprinting to victory from another successful breakaway.
In Masters C, Scott McKiernan and Rob Cain both featured strongly in the bunch sprint to cap off solid rides.
Sunday’s Moreton Bay Triathlon also delivered impressive results for Redlands competitors.
Neil Makepeace teamed with his son in the Classic Triathlon and the pair stormed home to second.
RCMC members Martin Mitchell and Wayne Knott joined Levi Van Dijk from M5 to claim victory in the team’s event.
In the individual triathlon, Darren Farlow secured a podium finish in his category while Tania Farlow placed inside the top 10.
The weekend wrapped up with Round 1 of the Queensland ITT Series – known as “The Race of Truth” – at Muzz on Sunday.
Julie Rappo, Chrissy Sands, Sally McLean and Kelly Phuah lined up in the gruelling individual time trial event where riders battle the clock alone.
Phuah delivered one of the standout performances of the weekend, averaging a scorching 40.5km/h to win her age group in a remarkable return to the time trial bike following last year’s crash.
