THE rapid rise of pickleball on Brisbane’s Bayside was on full display as more than 100 players took part in a major interclub competition at Victoria Point State High School.

The event, organised by Brisbane Bayside Pickleball Club, brought together competitors from Southside Pickleball Club and Wynnum Pickleball Club for a full day of matches across multiple divisions.

Victoria Point State High School, one of the region’s key venues for the sport, hosted the tournament on its five indoor courts and 16 marked outdoor courts.

The club also regularly uses facilities at Wellington Point tennis courts, Cleveland State School and Iona College.

A total of 115 players participated, with matches held in gender doubles and mixed doubles formats.

Competitors were grouped according to skill level to ensure balanced and competitive play throughout the day.

Organisers said the event was a strong success, highlighting both the growth of the sport locally and the increasing demand for structured competition across the Bayside.

The next interclub tournament is scheduled for Saturday, May 16, with registrations available through the Open Sports app.

There is also growing momentum behind a push for the sport to be considered for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games.
