Redlands United and Brisbane City FC have shared the points in a high scoring Friday night game at the Compass Grounds.

Straight from the kick-off City applied constant pressure on the Red Devils. However, the organised Red Devils defence stood firm but could not gain control of the ball in the early stages.

With 11 minutes gone Redlands were first on the scoreboard when Peter Klaassen finished off some great work from Ryo Emoto, firing in a shot from a tight angle that beat the keeper with sheer power.

The goal boosted United’s confidence, with Klaassen, Jack Skinner, Deane Alterio and Angus Broderick all putting in shots that troubled the City keeper.

It was a tough, tight first half of football with both sides not giving an inch as Redlands went into the break leading 1-0.

With 57 minutes gone a long throw in the Redlands half enabled Alterio to round his defender and set off downfield. He slid a deft pass into the near post where Emoto met it and turned it into the net.

The visitors got themselves back into the game in the 60th minute when the ball was squared into the box for an unmarked player to score, reducing the deficit to 2-1.

Controversy erupted 15 minutes later when after a City corner, the linesman and referee eventually ruled that the ball had crossed the line for a City goal.

Both sides continued to push for a winner but at full time the score line remained locked at 2-2.
Redlands man of the match was awarded to Peter Klaassen.
