PLANNED safety and accessibility upgrades to a key parking and access area at Manly State Boat Harbour are expected to get underway by mid-2026, with detailed design now in progress.
The Trafalgar St and Norfolk Point parking facility, which services hospitality venues, recreational boating, marine rescue operations and popular walking and cycling routes, will undergo a suite of improvements aimed at making the precinct safer, more accessible and better connected for all users.
The project will deliver a new accessible pathway along the southern side of Trafalgar St, additional accessible parking bays and upgrades to existing accessible spaces.
Safety improvements will include new speed humps, updated signage and line marking, a raised pedestrian crossing and road resurfacing.
Bicycle parking will also be installed to support active transport.
To create a safer pedestrian crossing point, three existing parking spaces will be removed as part of the raised crossing works.
The Trafalgar St/Norfolk Point area is heavily used by pedestrians, cyclists and vehicles accessing the breakwater and open space at Norfolk Point, as well as nearby boating and hospitality facilities.
Project planners say the upgrades will significantly improve safety and accessibility while maintaining the area’s important transport and recreational functions.
Efforts will be made to minimise impacts on existing street trees along Trafalgar St, with trees retained where possible.
The concept design for the project has been finalised, with detailed design currently underway.
The works are being managed by Boat Harbours Strategy and Planning within the Department of Transport and Main Roads.
