A SPACE-themed playground is proposed as a standout feature in a major upgrade of Carindale Recreation Reserve.
New picnic facilities, a multi-use riding track, an active fitness zone and additional parking are also proposed in the draft concept plan for what Brisbane City Council says will be the city’s next destination park.

The entry road is planned to be removed and a new entry built to connect to existing car parking.

After receiving more than 200 responses during the Carindale Recreation Reserve masterplan survey earlier this year, consultation is now open on the draft plan.

Final concept plans for the park upgrade are expected in early 2026, with construction set to begin mid to late next year.

Environment, Parks and Sustainability chair Tracy Davis said the upgrades at Carindale Recreation Reserve were inspired by destination parks like Colmslie Beach Reserve and Grinstead Park in Alderley.

Carindale Recreation Reserve, located off Bedivere and Cadogan Streets, is one of five parks across the city and one sports ground being upgraded by Council.

Cr Davis said the city’s parks and open spaces helped shape Brisbane’s reputation as Australia’s lifestyle capital.

“These upgrades are about giving residents more to see and do, right on their doorstep,” she said. “We’ve seen residents fall in love with the upgrades in Grinstead Park in Alderley or Colmslie Beach Reserve and we’re excited to bring that kind of creativity to the Carindale Recreation Reserve.

“By investing in our parks and playgrounds, we’re creating spaces where families, friends, and neighbours can connect.”

An information session will be held on Sunday, November 30 near the existing Carindale Recreation Reserve playground from 8-10am.

Feedback on the masterplan closes on December 7 and can be submitted online at yoursay.brisbane.qld.gov.au/carindale-recreation-reserve-park-upgrade-project.
