STUDENTS and staff at The Industry School Redlands have rallied behind Breast Cancer Awareness Month, raising more than $1600 through a burst of school spirit, teamwork and a splash of bright pink.
The fundraiser began with Year 10 student Teegan, whose grandmother died of breast cancer before she was born.
Wanting to honour her memory, Teegan convinced Industry Consultant Pat to dye his hair pink to support Breast Cancer Network Australia (BCNA).
The challenge quickly spread across the Cleveland campus, with students enthusiastically joining in and helping raise the first $1000.
Building on the momentum, the school formed a team to take on the Brisbane Triathlon Pink 5K at the Sleeman Sports Complex.
Six students and three staff members took part, raising another $659 for the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF).
Two students delivered standout performances.
Noah completed the 5K in 22:46, placing ninth overall, followed closely by Boyd in 10th place out of 77 competitors.
Acting Principal Paul Davis said the effort reflected the school’s focus on developing capable and community-minded young people.
“At The Industry School, we’re all about developing skills for life; not just for work,” he said.
Teegan, who sparked the campaign, is currently exploring future pathways in childcare and health support services through the school.
