The community is being urged to seek out and celebrate local heroes by nominating them for a 2024 Redlands Coast Australia Day award.

Mayor Karen Williams said that across all areas of Redlands Coast there were some amazing locals who often were working behind-the-scenes in ways that created a better life for their community.

“They often go unrecognised for the way they engender and build community spirit which ultimately makes our city such a wonderful and warm place to live,” she said.

“The Redlands Coast Australia Day Awards were created as a way of honouring these people for the inspiring and valuable contributions they make to our community.

“I really encourage you to nominate an individual, an artist, or an organisation who has demonstrated achievements that have helped make a difference.

“There are nine award categories recognising different accomplishments or involvements, so have a think about who you know who is leading the way in one of those areas.

“It is time to shine a light on these wonderful people and show them how valued they are.”

Online nominations are open for the following award categories:

  • Citizen of the Year
  • Senior Citizen of the Year (60 years of age or older)
  • Young Citizen of the Year (30 years of age or younger)
  • Local Hero
  • Reconciliation
  • Community Organisation
  • Cultural
  • Sports
  • Environment and Sustainability

For more information on each category or to make a nomination, visit council’s website at redland.qld.gov.au.

Nominations are now open and close at 4pm on Friday, December 1, 2023. Finalists will be notified and invited to attend the awards, which are being held in January 2024.
