WYNNUM Wolves remain winless under new coach Graham Harvey after a 4-1 loss to National Premier League leaders Lions FC at Carmichael Park on Saturday night.

Once again, Wolves made life difficult for themselves with soft goals conceded early in the contest, leaving them chasing the game against the in-form Lions.

Set piece defending continues to plague the side, who have now fallen behind early in consecutive clashes with title contenders Lions and Gold Coast Knights.

Despite second-half improvements in both matches, Wolves were unable to mount a serious comeback.

A bright moment for the home fans came when promising young striker Edward Hill netted his first senior goal with a composed finish after the break.

Coach Harvey is urging his team to flip the script in this Sunday’s crucial Round 15 away fixture against St George Willawong – a side they drew 2-2 with back in March.

In contrast, Wynnum’s FQPL 3 Women’s team is enjoying a purple patch of form, coming from behind to claim a thrilling 3-2 win over North Lakes in a second-versus-third showdown on Saturday afternoon.

The seesawing encounter saw North Lakes take the early advantage, only for Wolves to respond with goals from winger Lara Randles and striker Shannae Noonan.

With the match heading for a draw, in-form fullback Ava Chumbley produced a long-range stunner in the dying minutes to snatch the win.

The result sees Wolves leapfrog North Lakes into third on the ladder, with goal difference boosted by a 16-0 rout of North Star the previous weekend.

The women now face a busy stretch with a mid-week game against Tarragindi Tigers before returning to Carmichael Park at 4pm this Saturday to tackle Rochedale Rovers.
