THE days of free all-day parking for CBD workers using the Woolworths Cleveland car park look set to be over, as Redland City Council moves to introduce regulated parking enforcement at the rear car park behind the store.

Council is preparing to amend local parking laws to add the Woolworths Cleveland car park, located at 67-10 Middle St, to the list of regulated off-street parking areas.

This follows a request from Haben Group, owner of Stocklands Cleveland, who want Council to manage parking compliance.

For years, the car park has provided free, unrestricted parking that has been widely used by workers from nearby businesses – not just shoppers.

The proposed changes could introduce time limits, fines, or permits to better manage parking availability and ensure spaces remain accessible for customers and short-term users.

The Council says the move aims to prevent long-term parking by workers, which can reduce the availability of spaces for shoppers and visitors, improving overall parking turnover and access.

If approved by councillors, the local law amendment will undergo a formal review process including community consultation.

Council has pledged to communicate clearly with the community as the process unfolds and to manage any changes fairly to support the needs of businesses and visitors alike.
