The Redlands Coast is confronted with an urgent task: addressing the needs of its rapidly growing aging population.

With a steady increase in the number of seniors, the demand for housing options that cater to their evolving requirements has become a matter of utmost importance.

Renowned for its picturesque landscapes and vibrant community spirit, the Redlands Coast finds itself at the forefront of a complex challenge – providing comfortable and accessible homes for its senior residents.

To ensure their well-being and enhance their golden years, it is imperative to explore suitable housing options that align with their changing lifestyles.

We spoke to Savannah Falzon, a retirement and aged care specialist in Victoria Point, about her perspective on options for our over 50s.

“As the over 50s demographic seeks to contemplate their options, many feel overwhelmed and confused about their choices for the next phase in the retirement journey,” she said.

“Many encounter various hurdles and face resistance from family and friends as well as common misconceptions.

“Resistance from family and friends is one significant hurdle faced by our retirees, particularly as many are leaving the move to their late 70s and early 80s.

“Family is concerned about being separated from aging parents, and question what support they will have should anything go wrong with their health, their finances or home maintenance.

“A common myth surrounding downsizing is the sacrificing of comfort and independence when really it can be a liberating experience, allowing individuals to free themselves of maintaining a large property and ridding themselves of excess clutter in their home.

“Downsizing enables the retiree to embrace a more manageable lifestyle.”

Let us encourage supportive discussions and guide the Redlands Coast’s senior residents toward a fulfilling and enriching life in this new chapter of their journey.
