REDLAND’S sister city Kani City was on the touring agenda for twenty members of University of the Third Age Redlands (U3AR), who visited Japan in April.

In recognition of the sister city status the Kani City Mayor and his council along with an organisation of seniors, Kenyukai, turned out to welcome the group and maee the two day stay memorable.

In Kani, amidst the stunning cherry blossoms in full bloom, the U3A group had a firsthand opportunity to be immersed in the traditional activities of dance, music, origami and calligraphy while wearing happy coats.

As guests of Kani City the group explored the mountain home of a world-renowned potter, wandered through the magnificent Rose Garden Park and delved into the art of sake making.

The tour group went onto to visit a number of other Japanese cities

In 2015, Council entered into a Cultural and Educational Cooperation Agreement with Kani City, Japan.

Kani City is located in the south-central Gifu Prefecture, about 30km from either Gifu City or Nagoya City, in the Kani basin. The Kiso River flows in the northern part of the city and roughly flat terrain continues to the Ota Basin on the opposite bank.

Qinhuangdao, China

Following a five-year Friendship City arrangement, on 26 June 2018 the Vice Mayor of Qinhaungdao Municipal People’s Government and the Mayor of Redland City signed a Sister City Agreement.
