AUSTRALIA’S tourism industry is set to benefit from a new national training platform aimed at strengthening skills, professionalism and business capability.
Federal Tourism Minister Don Farrell and the Australian Tourism Industry Council (ATIC) launched the Quality Tourism eLearning Hub, an online platform designed in collaboration with eLearning specialists, etrainu.
The hub forms part of ATIC’s Quality Tourism Framework (QTF), which provides operators with online training and accreditation programs focused on building capability and quality across the sector.
The Australian Government, through Austrade, has invested $8 million to expand and improve the QTF, with an emphasis on supporting small and regional tourism businesses to improve accessibility, sustainability and service standards.
At the centre of the new platform is a library of short, practical courses developed with input from industry and subject matter experts. Topics cover sustainability, accessibility, customer service readiness and other key areas.
The hub is designed to be accessible on any device, with operators and their teams able to learn at their own pace and earn digital skills certificates.
Managers and business owners will also be able to assign training, monitor staff progress and generate reports, with single sign-on access integrated through the Quality Tourism Framework.
Queensland Tourism Industry Council CEO Natassia Wheeler said the platform would provide a vital boost to regional operators.
“For small and regional tourism businesses, having access to training that is both affordable and accessible is a game-changer.”
ATIC CEO Erin McLeod said the hub was the next step in strengthening industry capability nationwide.
“By collaborating with eLearning experts etrainu, we’ve created a versatile learning platform designed to serve tourism businesses of all sizes and locations throughout Australia.”
etrainu CEO Paul Hoon said the project was designed with small and regional operators front of mind.
“Together with ATIC, we’ve created a platform that delivers relevant, accessible learning, particularly for the small and regional operators.”
