Distinguished by its adult-learning environment, TAFE Queensland’s Senior College program empowers students to complete Years 11 and 12 in a setting that promotes practicality and independence. Offered at the Alexandra Hills campus, this high-school alternative program supports students aged 15 to 17-years-of-age to complete their Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) and, if desired, work towards gaining an Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank (ATAR).

Senior College caters to diverse learning styles and preferences, providing a flexible education approach to help students achieve their personal goals. “We build individualised study programs for each student, giving them the flexibility to complete high school and also go to their apprenticeship, work or complete a vocational certificate,” explains Craig Eades, Director of Faculty for Senior College and Community Pathways. Student timetables are developed around their individual subject preferences and educational pathways, spanning over 3 to 4 days per week. This approach gives students more time to work towards their futures, something that Craig says is essential to empower students to seize opportunities beyond the classroom.

By accommodating these commitments alongside their studies, students can cultivate practical skills, gain real-world experience, and tailor their educational journey to suit their career aspirations. With Senior College, education becomes a pathway to academic achievement and a springboard to personal and professional growth.

“Students call their teachers by their first names, there’s no uniform, and they have the freedom to express themselves. We’re still a high school, and we still need students to have 90 per cent attendance and get their assessments in on time. But if they’ve got a problem, we listen and create a plan for success,” continues Craig.

Students also benefit from comprehensive support services on campus. Qualified counsellors are available, and students access mentorship programs and tailored career advice. The AccessAbility support officers ensure an inclusive learning environment, assisting students with diverse needs and enabling everyone to thrive and achieve their full potential.

Limited places available in July 2024 and January 2025 intakes. Support your teen to thrive – enquire or apply now by phoning (07) 3826 8407 or visit tafeqld.edu.au/seniorcollege.
