TAFE Senior College’s latest graduation ceremony featured inspirational, positive and genuinely authentic stories from the students involved.

They shared their exciting journey of commitment and overcoming challenges along the way to their end goal.

These are the students who have taken the alternative route to completing their Year 12 studies and now, alongside over 45,000 Queensland senior school students, have graduated with the support of TAFE Queensland behind them.

Director of Senior College Craig Eades was extremely proud of student William Moore, who spoke to the Class of 2024 on how life-changing Senior College had been for him.

“Supporting students to become successful is incredible. It’s so enriching to see our graduates leave us with meaningful skills and careers, especially considering how extremely challenging their lives have been” Mr Eades said.

The graduation brought to light the commitment of the Senior College teachers, with one teacher going above and beyond to get his kids across the line.

About a year and a half ago, a light-hearted promise was made to a group of Year 11 students at TAFE Senior College in AlexandraHills; if they made it to graduation, they could bedazzle their teacher’s head!

Dr George Lee III, also known to his students as “Kevin” (some of the students thought he looked more like a Kevin), said he decided to go along with the deal to provide inspiration.

“They were laughing, of course, but I decided to go along with it and told them, ‘If you do make it to graduation, you can go nuts with the decorations’.

“We all had a good laugh, and I thought that would be the end of it’”.

Fast forward 18 months, and George admits, “I had honestly forgotten about it, but they hadn’t!”

They were excited to celebrate their big day and, as it turns out, bedazzling their teacher’s head was part of their graduation dreams!

Congratulations students and good luck with your future endeavours.
