Six Year 4 Redland College boys have started picking up rubbish on the council oval beside the college at Wellington Point.

They are Mitchell Owens, Lachlan Hill, Cruz Galletly, Asher Chuy, Caleb Russell and Joey O’Brien.

Their drive has been inspired by a new environmental unit in the Year 4 curriculum.

Cr Wendy Boglary said the boys wrote to her to tell her what they were doing and to ask if council could put up a sign regarding rubbish in the area.

“To encourage the students, I made up certificates and went to the college to give the boys their reward,” she said.

“They were so thrilled and proud. It made me so happy and is something I encourage in students.”
