Families across the Redlands Coast are being encouraged to plan ahead, with a packed program of activities set to keep children entertained during the upcoming school holidays from April 3 to 19.
Outdoor adventures, craft sessions, cultural experiences and live performances will be on offer across multiple Redland City Council venues, catering to children of all ages.
Mayor Jos Mitchell said activities would be held at IndigiScapes, Redland City Libraries, Redland Performing Arts Centre and Redland Art Gallery.
“Council teams have organised a diverse program of events to keep children entertained during the school holidays,” the Mayor said.
“Many of the events are free, but most require bookings so it’s important to get in early to ensure you don’t miss out.”
A strong focus on outdoor play and nature connection will feature at IndigiScapes, with additional activities set to enhance the popular nature playground.
“Bonus activities will be added to the nature playground on both Wednesday mornings during the holidays, including tandem walkers, tiger feet, wobble boards, a balance beam, ring toss, quoits, noughts and crosses, bouncy animals, juggling sticks and pavement games.
“These are in addition to the regular equipment such as the flying fox, wooden balance beam obstacle course and hedge maze.
“I also encourage visitors to drop into reception for resources to complete a scavenger hunt, check out the interactive activities in the Discovery Centre, and visit the Eco Markets on Saturday 11 April for a morning of family-friendly activities.”
Nature journaling sessions, Joey’s Club and a koala spotting walk with Ranger Stacey are also among the highlights.
Libraries across the city will host a range of creative and educational programs, including activities tailored specifically for teenagers.
“This includes programs exclusively for teenagers, allowing them to create custom pencil cases and polymer clay jewellery or take over the Makerspace area at Cleveland Library,” the Mayor said.
“There’s also a Punch and Judy puppet show, Quandamooka dance and stories with Matt Burns and a session teaching the basics of first aid through fun, interactive, age-appropriate activities.”
Live performance and arts experiences will also form a key part of the holiday program, with international acts and hands-on creative opportunities available locally.
“There are opportunities for families to experience engaging live theatre through two international offerings at Redland Performing Arts Centre (RPAC),” the Mayor said.
“This includes Japan’s Drum Tao, which blends taiko drumming with martial arts athleticism and cinematic staging, and Ireland: The Voyage, a celebration of Ireland’s history and heart through song, music and dance.
“Redland Art Gallery is offering free drop-in activities at its galleries in Cleveland and The Mezz at RPAC, where children can contribute to a community artwork inspired by reflecting on Quandamooka Country or engage with First Nations language in a seek and learn activity.
“Younger children can also attend a sensory workshop to discover sounds, shapes and language.”
